Gifts for coffee lovers
A practical guide, sorted by how seriously they take their coffee.
“Coffee lover” covers everything from someone who just likes a good mug to a person who weighs their beans to the gram. The trick is to match the gift to where they are on that journey — buy too far ahead and it gathers dust; buy just one step up and it gets used every morning. Here’s how we’d think about it.
If they’re just getting into it (under €40)
- A burr grinder. The single biggest upgrade for anyone still using pre-ground or a blade grinder. Fresh, evenly-ground coffee changes everything.
- A gooseneck kettle. Control over the pour is what makes pour-over and French press taste deliberate instead of accidental.
- A bag of really good beans. A local roaster’s subscription or a small selection of single-origin bags is a low-risk, always-welcome gift.
If they brew every day (€40–€120)
- A pour-over set or AeroPress. Simple, near-indestructible, and beloved by people who care about taste but not gadgets.
- A precision scale with a timer. Repeatable ratios are the difference between “nice” and “the best cup I’ve made”.
- An insulated carafe or travel mug. Unglamorous, used constantly. A good one lasts years.
For the serious obsessive (€120+)
- An entry espresso machine + grinder. The big one. Pair it with a tamper and a milk jug if they’re into flat whites.
- A high-end electric grinder. If they already have a machine, a better grinder is the upgrade they actually notice.
- A roasting starter kit. For the person who has everything — let them roast their own.
Small extras that always land
Bean storage canisters, a cleaning kit for their machine, a tasting flight of beans from different regions, or a nice ceramic cup from a maker they don’t already follow. Consumables are a safe bet because they never have “too many”.
