Gifts for book lovers
The trick: don’t pick the book — make the reading better.
Buying a specific book for a serious reader is a trap — they probably have it, or have strong opinions you don’t share. Safer and more thoughtful: make the act of reading nicer, or feed the obsession around it.
Under €30
- A proper reading light. A warm, clip-on rechargeable light is the upgrade every late-night reader didn’t know they needed.
- A beautiful bookmark or book darts. Small, used daily, and far nicer than the receipt they’re currently using.
- A bookshop gift card. Their favourite independent shop, not a big chain — it says you know their taste without guessing the title.
€30–€100
- An e-reader. For commuters and holiday readers; a backlit one with weeks of battery is a genuine quality-of-life gift.
- A book subscription. A monthly indie-bookshop pick or a themed box keeps surprising them all year.
- A really good reading chair cushion or throw. Comfort is half of reading; lean into the cosy.
For the collector (€100+)
- A first edition or signed copy of a book they love — the keepsake version of a favourite.
- A beautiful clothbound or illustrated boxed set of a series they adore.
- A literary experience — a festival ticket, an author talk, or a weekend somewhere with a famous bookshop.
